In 1975, Rolex produced a limited number of 1530s, as an experiment to see what kind of case would work for their quartz movement.

It took them 5 years to come up with the perfect watch and from 1975 to 1977 they decided to combine a mechanical 1570 movement with this angular case. A futuristic look but with a mechanical brain.

The reference 1530 was discontinued in 1977, upon introduction of Rolex’s revolutionary quartz calibre and it is estimated less than 1,500 examples of the 1530 were produced

A super rare reference, this 1530 is historically significant as it belongs to an era where Rolex almost transitioned to being a quartz-only maker.
